Sedation dentistry has been a real blessing for many of our patients at Redbud Dental of Edmond. Millions of people all over the country cope with dental anxiety; sometimes it’s so bad people avoid the dentist altogether. That’s not a good idea, because it puts their dental health at risk.
In spite of its benefits, there are some common myths about sedation dentistry, which we will address in this article.
Myth #1: There is only one type of sedation.
We offer three types: nitrous oxide (laughing gas); oral conscious sedation, which involves taking a prescribed sedative; and IV sedation, which is administered intravenously. With the second two options, you’ll need a ride to and from our office.
Myth #2: With Sedation Dentistry, You Are Completely Unconscious.
With most sedation you are very groggy, remain awake. There is one type of sedation dentistry that puts you completely under, but it is typically done in a hospital setting.
Myth #3: Dental Sedation Should Only Be Used For Extensive Dental Treatment
Anxiety-free dentistry is completely safe. Many patients benefit from sedation for routine exams and procedures.
Myth #4: SedationDentistry Is Still Experimental
Millions of Americans have safely received sedation for dental treatment. And nitrous oxide has been used in dentistry for more than one hundred years!
You deserve to have excellent dental care, but if anxiety makes you avoid the dentist, sedation dentistry may be just what you need. Patients come to Redbud Dental of Edmond from Guthrie and Deer Creek for comprehensive family dentistry. Schedule an appointment with us today!
